Gloria Flaherty, 75, died at home on Thursday, December 28, 2017 after a long illness.
Gloria was born August 27, 1942 in Long Branch and lived there until her marriage to David in 1963. They lived in Neptune for 29 years before living in Jackson for the last 15 years.
She had worked at Steinbacks for many years, then for the Asbury Park Press in Neptune, retiring from there after more than 20 years.
Gloria’s joys in life were family, travel and her Catholic faith.
Gloria was predeceased by her parents, Dominick and Josephine Sorrentino.
She is survived by her husband of 54 years, David, and their children Carole (Tony) Wastog, Joan (Costas) Vafiadis, Dan (Mary) Flaherty and grandchildren Jessica MacConchie and David Vafiadis.
Also surviving are siblings Theresa Burke and Mickey (Hope) Sorrentino and many extended family and friends.
She was involved in the Pinochle Club, Investment Club and other social activities at the Winding Ways Community in Jackson. Gloria had volunteered at many charities, including the Food Bank and Kimbel Closet.
Visitation will be at the Timothy E. Ryan Home for Funerals DeBow Chapel, 150 West Veterans Hwy., Jackson, NJ on Tuesday, January 2, 2018 from 2-4 & 6-8pm. A Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, January 3, 2018 10:00am at St Robert Bellarmine Catholic Church on 61 Georgia Rd., Freehold with interment at Woodbine Cemetery at 14 Maple Ave., Oceanport.
