Samuel Shanker, 76, of Pelican Island, NJ, passed away Thursday, March 1, 2018 surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Elizabeth, NJ, he lived in Neshanic, NJ before moving to Pelican Island in 2005.
Sam was a jack of all trades- owning several businesses, working at numerous car dealerships across NJ where he was able to use his innate ability to “sell ice cubes to eskimos”, and most recently striking up a conversation with everyone as a greeter at Home Depot. Sam was also an avid poker player, an expert sea glass hunter, and known for his daily dog walks with his girls, Honey and Cookie.
He is survived by his wife of 29 years, Cynthia, his four children and their families-Jessica Stibitz (Brett, Sophia and Emma) Hillsborough, NJ, Elizabeth Brain of Hopewell, NJ, Scott Shanker (Gina, Alexis) of Long Branch, NJ, and Steven Shanker (Jake, Samantha) of Atlantic Highlands, NJ; three brothers William Shanker(Barbara) of Coconut Creek, Fl, Thomas Shanker(Lois) of Union, NJ, Michael Shanker (Lynn - deceased) of Scotch Plains, NJ and his nephews and niece, Joel, Mishel, Marc, and Jeff.
A Memorial Gathering will be offered Monday 2-5 with a funeral service to be offered at 4:00pm at the Timothy E. Ryan Home for Funerals, 995 Fischer Blvd., Toms River.
