Obituary for Joseph Belock

Joseph Belock, 86, of Berkeley Township., NJ died on March 7, 2018 at Community Medical Center in Toms River, NJ. Joseph was born in Jersey City, NJ and lived in Budd Lake, NJ for 41 years until moving to Berkeley Township., NJ in 2012. He proudly served his country in the US Navy as an electronics technician from 1949-1953. Joseph graduated from Seton Hall with a BS in Mathematics. He enjoyed a long career in computers as a technician then in sales with IBM, Siemans, Tab Inc. and other companies before starting his own consulting firm Belock Associates in Budd Lake, NJ. He also was an instructor at the RCA Institute.
Joseph was an active member in several parishes in the Byzantine Catholic Church over his lifetime. He sang in the choir then later acted as cantor at St. Mary’s in Jersey City; was cantor and trustee at Holy Wisdom in Flanders, NJ; and then was assistant cantor at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Byzantine Church in Toms River, NJ. His love of singing extended beyond the church as Joseph sang tenor in the Masterwork Chorus based in Mendham NJ in the 1970s and ‘80s, including annual performances of Handel’s Messiah at Lincoln Center in New York. Since moving the Berkeley Twp. he sang tenor in the Silver Ridge Park West Chorus.
Joseph loved sailing, spending many happy afternoons on his boat with his wife Judith on Budd Lake and Barnegat Bay. He was a member the Rotary Club in Mt. Olive, N.J., the DESA Destroyer Escort Sailors Association and the Korean Veterans Association.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years Judith Belock of Berkeley Township; his children Joseph J. Belock of Jersey City, NJ, Andy Belock and his wife Rebecca Mackey of Portland, Ore. and Julie Belock and her husband Robert Leoni III of Somerville, Mass.; one grandson, Robert Leoni IV, of Somerville, Mass.; and many loving nieces and nephews.
Family will receive friends and relatives on Sunday March 11, 2018 from 2-4 p.m. & 7-9 p.m. at the Timothy E. Ryan Home for Funerals 145 St. Catherine Blvd. Toms River, NJ. A Funeral Service will be offered on Monday March 12, 2018 at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Byzantine Catholic Church on 1937 Church Rd. in Toms River, NJ. Burial will follow to BG William C Doyle Veterans Cemetery in Wrightstown, NJ. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Our Lady of Perpetual Help Byzantine Church 1937 Church Rd.
