Frances Gunther (Windeler)
Frances S. Windeler Gunther, 94, of Howell, NJ, passed away Tuesday, June 5, 2018 at Jersey Shore University Medical Center. Born in Jacksonville, FL, she was a lifelong resident of Howell, as where her parents, J. Harold Windeler and Carolyn Errickson Austin. She graduated from Lakewood High School in 1942. As part of the war effort, she worked in an airplane factory, similar to the iconic “Rosie The Riveter". Frances proudly served her country with the Women’s Army Corps from 1944-1946 as an ambulance driver at Fort Dix. She studied business at Rider College. Frances was the secretary and bookkeeper of her family’s business, Windeler and Gunther Well Drilling Corp. in Howell for thirty years and then worked as a part time bookkeeper for several other local family businesses. She is predeceased by her husband of thirty years, John, a former mayor of Howell, and two grandchildren Michael Gunther II and Kyle Bhatiya. Surviving are her children Michael J. Gunther of Howell, John David Gunther of Howell and Patricia Bhatiya of Little Silver, a brother Richard of Florida, her grandchildren Dinkar Bhatia (April Adams), Christopher Gunther, and Neil Bhatiya, and her great grandchildren Aidan, Peyton, Kayla, and Samina. Other survivors include a niece, Cynthia Windeler Turner, and a nephew, Richard J Windeler, in addition to many Windeler 1st cousins and numerous Gunther-Matthews nieces and nephews. A Celebration of Life reception is planned; please contact a family member for the details. Interment will be private. Funeral arrangements are under the care of the Timothy E.
