Emma McGarry (Logan)
Emma J. McGarry, 95, of Toms River, NJ, died peacefully at home on Tuesday, July 31. 2018. She was born January 10, 1923 to James and Emma Logan, and was raised in the Vailsburg section of Newark, NJ. She graduated from West Side High School. She was employed by Schiffenhaus Bros during WWII and afterwards at NJ Bell and SEARS Roebuck and Co. She married Alfred B. McGarry in 1948 and they lived in Scotch Plains for 23 years. She was active at St. Bartholomew Parish, where she enjoyed chairing the Family Festival for number of years.
She moved to Toms River in 1972. For many years she was an active member of the Bay Shore POA, as well as the Evening Division of the Women’s Club of Toms River.
She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 62 years, Alfred; her daughter, Anne B. Keenan; and son –in- law, Harry Breckenridge. She is survived by her daughter Jeanne Breckenridge of Brick; eights sons and daughters-in-law: Alfred J. and Linda of White Rock, S.C., John F. X. and Melody of Toms River, Thomas C. and Christine of Doylestown, PA, Michael J. and Susan of Rockford, IL Paul V. and Kimberly of Toms River, Francis J. and Sirli of Toms River, James L. and Christine of Island Heights, and Joseph G. and Peggy of Island Heights; son-in-law, William P. Keenan and wife Karen of East Stroudsburg, PA. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren, Brian, Katharine, Christopher, Mark, Bridget, Michael, Nicholas, Carmen, Erin, Maureen, Katarina, Matthew, and Teagan; four great- grandchildren: Benjamin, Gabriella, Daniel, Maeve; one pending great- granddaughter (name TBD) She is also survived by a niece and several nephews.
The family will receive friends from 3p.m. to 6p.m. Sunday, August 5 at the Timothy E. Ryan Home for Funerals 995 Fischer Blvd., Toms River. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. Monday, August 6 at St Junipero Serra (St. Catharine of Sienna) R. C. Church, Seaside Park. Burial will follow at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Toms River. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Emma’s memory to the Anne B.
