Rosemary Sullivan, 91 of Bayville, passed from this life peacefully at her home on Friday, March 15, 2024. She was born April 9, 1932 in Newark to the late Edward and Rose Conley. Rosemary grew up in Nutley NJ and she had three siblings, Edward Joseph, Vincent, and Ann-Ellen Conley. She was a loving wife, devoted mother and grandmother. She worked for the Berkeley Township Board of Education for over 22 years. Rosemary attended St. Mary’s School in Nutley and graduated high school at St. Michaels in Newark, NJ. She was married to John J. Sullivan, (former Berkeley Township Deputy Police Chief) for 39 years. The couple were married in 1952 and moved to the shore area in 1954 before settling in Bayville, NJ in the late 1950s. There they raised their six children.
Rosemary worked for Bell Telephone where she was a telephone operator before being employed by the Berkeley Township Board of Education. She loved to read books on the American West and enjoyed watching shows such as Gunsmoke and Bonanza. She was an avid walker and enjoyed traveling in her spare time and attending St. Barnabas R.C. Church.
Rosemary is predeceased by her parents, Edward Conley; Rose Scott Conley; her brothers, Edward and VIncent Conley, her husband, John J. Sullivan Sr, son, John J. Sullivan, Jr , and grandson, James L. Sullivan, Jr.
Rosemary is survived by her children, Ann Sullivan from Virginia, James L. Sullivan from Gettysburg, Colleen Sullivan-Ballentine of Beachwood, Cathleen Sullivan of Forked River, and Peg Sullivan of Forked River; her sister Ann Conley Bardall of Fairhaven, NJ, along with five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren
The family will receive friends and relatives on Thursday, March 21, 2024 from 3pm to 7pm at Timothy E. Ryan Home for Funerals O’Connell Chapel, 706 Atlantic City Blvd., Bayville. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 9:30am, Friday, March 22, 2024 at St. Barnabas RC Church, Bayville.
