Timothy E. Ryan, CFSP

Timothy E. Ryan, CFSP

Founder 1951 - 2019

Mr. Ryan was born in Orange, New Jersey and in his youth lived in Bloomfield, & Howell Twsp., New Jersey.

Tim was a graduate of Howell High School, Howell, New Jersey. He attended St. Joseph Seminary for Franciscan Friars, O.F. M. Pulaski, Wisconsin and Graduated from The American Academy McAllister Institute of Funeral Service, New York, New York.

He started his funeral director career as an intern at Poulson & Van Hise Funeral Directors of Trenton & Lawrenceville, New Jersey. Mr. Ryan than went on to serve the remainder of his internship with his uncle Jack, at the John J. Ryan Home for Funerals, Keansburg, New Jersey.

After receiving his Mortuary Science License, he became the manager of The Colonial Funeral Home in Lavallette, N.J. He served as manager for 10 years and then purchased the funeral home in Lavallette, & another location in Seaside Park, New Jersey from John Cutaio and renamed the firm the Timothy E. Ryan Home for Funerals.

Mr. Ryan’s professional memberships included the National Funeral Directors Association, where he had served on the National Contagious & Infections Disease Committee and the Advocacy Committee. He was also a member and Past President of the New Jersey State Funeral Director Association. He served as a Trustee of the New Jersey State Funeral Directors Association. The Monmouth & Ocean Counties Funeral Directors Association. Mr. Ryan is also was a member by invitation to The Selected Independent Funeral Homes, The British Institute of Embalmers, and The Professional Embalmers Association of Ireland.

Tim was a member of the Board of Trustees at Community Medical Center, Toms River, New Jersey and a Trustee at The Garden State Cancer Center, Belleville, New Jersey.

Mr. Ryan served the community of Seaside Park as a Councilman and, as a councilman, he was chairman of the Water/ Sewer Department. He was also Past President of the Coast Guard Building Restoration Fund Raising Committee and was a candidate for U.S. Congress in Third Congressional District of New Jersey.

In addition, in the Boro of Lavallette, New Jersey, he served on the Mayors Advisory Committee, Environmental Protection Committee, Past President and Director of the Board of Public Assistance, The Lavallette First Aid Squad, as Past Secretary.

He was a member of St. Barnabas Roman Catholic Church, Bayville and has served the Roman Catholic Diocese of Trenton as a former member of the Board of Trustees at Morris Hall, Lawrenceville, New Jersey and The Ocean County Board of Catholic Charities. Mr. Ryan also was a former member and Trustee of St. Bonaventure Roman Catholic Church, Lavallette, New Jersey,where he also served as President of The Holy Name Society.

His other memberships included The Ancient Order of Hibernians, Division #1, Toms River, New Jersey where he served as President and was honored as Irishman of the Year, The Rotary Club of Seaside where is served as President, The Ocean County Emerald Society, The Jersey Shore Irish American Club, who also honored him as Irishman of the year, The Jersey Shore Friendly Sons of St. Patrick, where he was honored as Irishman of the year, and The Order of The Friendly Sons of the Shillelagh of the Jersey Shore.

He was also invested as a Knight of Merit with Star in The Sacred Constantinian Order of St. George.  a Knight Commander in The Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem and was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Council #8413 and the Msgr. John Baldwin Assemble 4th Degree Knights of Columbus.

Mr. Ryan was also given the honor of becoming an Affiliate member of the Order of Friars Minor, Assumption Province, where he was invested with the Habit of the First Order.

He had been named Outstanding Citizen of the Year by District 12 V.F.W. Ocean County, and also the Silver Holiday Post 10185 V.F.W. Recipient of the Humanitarian Award from The National Conference of Christians and Jews, The James E. West Fellowship, from the Jersey Shore Council Boy Scouts of America and the Adolph E. Woolley Award, the highest honor given by The Three River District, Jersey Shore Council, Boy Scouts of America.

Timothy E. Ryan passed away on Wednesday, August 7, 2019 surrounded by his loving family.

Erin Ryan, daughter of Tim Ryan, had been employed at the Timothy E. Ryan Home for Funerals for many years.

Born in Point Pleasant, NJ, she was a lifelong resident of Seaside Park, NJ where she lived above the funeral home for many years until building her own home in Seaside Park, NJ. 

Erin graduated from Monsignor Donovan High School in 1994 and from the Mortuary Science Program at Mercer County Community College, Trenton, N.J.

Erin was a member of the Women of the Moose, Ortley Beach, and served as a Trustee on the Ocean County St. Patrick's Day Parade Committee, where she was named 2024 Irish Woman of the Year.

Erin passed away on December 19, 2023 surrounded by her beloved family.

Office Manager

Mary Ryan, sister of Tim Ryan, has been Office Manager at the Timothy E. Ryan Home for Funerals since 1990.  A longtime resident of Lavallette, NJ and Seaside Park, NJ, she formerly lived in Florida, where she graduated from Gulf High School, New Port Richey, FL. She is a member, past treasurer and recording secretary of the Soroptimist International of Toms River, NJ and a member of the Woman of the Moose, Ortley Beach, NJ, Works on the Election Board, Lavallette, NJ, 200 Club of Ocean County and a Member of St. Catharine RC Church, Seaside Park, NJ

Mary has two daughters Amy Basilotto and Krystle Maver and enjoys spending time with her grandsons Blake Edward and Carson Ryan Maver; Wayne Ryan and Jack Edward Basilotto.

Alice Ryan Santangelo

Accounting Executive

Alice Ryan Santangelo, sister of Tim Ryan, has been an Accounting Executive at the Timothy E. Ryan Home for Funerals since September 1999.  A longtime resident of Brick, NJ, she formerly lived in Lavallette, NJ and Florida.

Alice is a member of Church of the Visitation, Brick, NJ and the Woman of the Moose, Ortley Beach, NJ and the 200 Club of Ocean County. She also served as Treasurer of the  Friends of Tim Ryan Campaign Fund.

She is married to her husband Jerry and has a daughter, Norma and two grandsons, Oliver and Owen.

Mark L. Sarin

Mark L. Sarin

Senior Director, NJ License No. 4134

Mark L. Sarin, NJ License No. 4134, has been a Funeral Director at the Timothy E. Ryan Home for Funerals since January 1993.   Born and raised in Holmdel, NJ, he graduated from Holmdel High School in 1985.  He received his Bachelor’s Degree from Ramapo College, Ramapo, NJ in 1989.  He graduated from American Academy McAllister Institute New York City, New York with a degree in Mortuary Science and is a licensed funeral director in New Jersey. Mark is a member of the British Institute of Embalmers, New Jersey State Funeral Director’s Association,  Monmouth and Ocean Funeral Director’s Association, Harmony Lodge F & AM Toms River, NJ, 200 Club of Ocean County, the Moose Lodge # 399 Ortley Beach, NJ, and the Emerald Society of Ocean County, NJ.                

He is married to his wife Alicia and has four children Lilliana, Patrick, Evelyn Rose and Abigail.

Thomas W. Renkin

Thomas W. Renkin

Thomas W. Renkin, NJ License No. 4250, has been a Funeral Director at the Timothy E. Ryan Home for Funerals since January 1998.  A lifelong resident of Toms River, NJ, he graduated from Toms River High School East in 1991.  He graduated from DeSales University, Center Valley, PA in 1995, receiving a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management.  He then received a Certificate in Mortuary Science from Mercer County Community College in 1997 and is a licensed funeral director in New Jersey.

Tom is a member of the Presbyterian Church of Toms River; Toms River Elks Lodge 1875; The Ancient Order of Hibernians: 200 Club of Ocean County.

He is married to his wife Kristin and has twins Keri and Tommy Jr.

Anthony A. Alvarez, Sr.

Anthony A. Alvarez, Sr. has been a Funeral Director since 2011, in the industry since 2002 and started at the Timothy E. Ryan Home for Funerals in February 2018.  Anthony grew up in Ocean County, graduating from Monsignor Donovan High School in Toms River, NJ in 1990 and from the Commonwealth Institute of Funeral Service in Houston, TX in 2011 and is licensed as a Funeral Director in Texas and New Jersey. He served our country in the US Army and was a police officer before pursuing his career in funeral service. Anthony is a proud father of three daughters and one son. His daughters have careers and live out of the state but his son attends Central Regional Middle School in Bayville, NJ.


James R. Croonquist, CFSP

Funeral Director NJ License No. 5354

James R. Croonquist, CFSP, NJ Licence No. 5354 has been a funeral director at the Timothy E. Ryan Home for Funerals since September 2023. Born and raised in Oradell, NJ he graduated from River Dell Regional High School in 2018. He attended Mercer County Community College and graduated with a degree in mortuary science. James is a member of the New Jersey State Funeral Directors Association.


Deanna Vazquez

Administrative Assistant

Deanna Vazquez has been an Administrative Assistant at the Timothy E. Ryan Home for Funerals since June 2004. A resident of Jackson for some time now, Deanna graduated from Bay Ridge High School and attended Kingsborough Community College in Brooklyn, NY. Deanna also attended IBM Technical School in New York. Deanna and her husband have one son, one daughter and one granddaughter.
